
Varrick Douglas
Dr. Varrick Douglas - Former Chicago Police Commander
A resident of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Varrick Douglas has over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, primarily with the Chicago Police Department. He joined the department in 1991 as a police officer and rose through the ranks, eventually holding the senior positions of patrol sergeant and tactical lieutenant. At the time of his retirement in January 2021, Dr. Varrick Douglas was executive officer/commander of police, Chicago Police Department - Area 2 Patrol.
During his four-year tenure as executive officer, Dr. Varrick Douglas oversaw daily operations, logistical coordination, and investigations in all five Area 2 districts. He further ensured the department had adequate resources, mentored police teams, analyzed crime statistics to inform security planning, and reviewed disciplinary actions against personnel. While in law enforcement, Dr. Varrick Douglas earned several awards, including the Unit Meritorious Performance Award and Mayor’s Resolution Award.
In November 2022, he joined the University of Chicago Police Department, where he currently works as commander of the Strategic Operations Center. He develops effective crime prevention and suppression methods and works with campus and medical center law enforcement to implement them. He also has direct oversight over emergency communications.
Dr. Douglas has a BS in law enforcement management and an MS in public safety administration from Calumet College of St. Joseph. He later earned his PhD in business administration. He is a member of NOBLE and PERF, and his hobbies are boating and exercising.
